IUPUI Natatorium Replace Generator

The Need

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is a public university collaboration between Indiana University and Purdue University offering undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees from both universities. The IUPUI Natatorium generator needed replaced. The existing unit had reached the end of its service life.

THE CHALLENGE

Replacing the generator in the same location while adding additional loads Relocating the generator from the roof to the ground required coordinated plans and logistics efforts. The plan included the installation of a generator test connection cabinet for staging a portable load bank and the installation of a remote annunciator panel and two automatic transfer switches. One automatic transfer switch was used to replace the existing emergency ATS and the second for future, legally required and optional stand-by loads.

The Solution

MNA provided electrical and architectural services to provide the solution for the IUPUI generator replacement project. MNA developed certified plans, sections, details, diagrams, schedules, and technical specifications for the work. In addition, short circuit device coordination and arc flash analyses were performed.
