Genentech Louisville Distribution Center K6 Cooler Conversion Phase 4

The Need

Genentech, a leading company in biotechnology advancements, required a cold storage room to maintain controlled temperatures for sensitive products such as biological samples, drugs and other forms of medication.

THE CHALLENGE

Genentech had specific requirements for the cold storage room’s capacity, dimensions and regulated temperatures needed for the critical cold storage applications. MNA applied architectural and engineering principles to define a scope of work that closely aligned with Genentech’s specifications for the unique space. The critical nature of the product in the cold storage room required careful consideration of the redundancy and operation of mission critical systems.

The Solution

MNA developed an energy efficient concept for mechanical cooling which included back-up systems, equipment and failure mode analysis. The team provided the design of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as well as the design of architectural elements for the cold storage room. A sequence of operations and control strategies for equipment was also designed to support the optimal operation of the equipment under varying conditions while minimizing temperature fluctuations. CFD analysis validated design concepts prior to construction and room validation.
