Cummins Inc. RMEP Machining Operations A/C – Construction Documents

The Need

MNA was hired by Cummins Inc. to perform design work for a major project at the Rocky Mount, NC facility. Cummins Inc. is an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and distributes engines, filtration, and power generation products.

THE CHALLENGE

Cummins’ machining operations at this facility are massive, and the coordination of the design work would be critical to success. The mechanical design work included providing conditioned air to the 690,000 SF machining operation, a new chiller building, 30 new rooftop air-handling units, rooftop distribution ductwork, MEP upfit of chiller building, insulation of existing duct and the connection of new duct to existing, replacement of existing HVAC grilles, and chilled water piping and process waste piping. The electrical design included the design of powering rooftop units, power distribution for the equipment, new service to chiller building, a medium voltage substation, and the upgrading of the existing primary service to the plant.

The Solution

Cummins Inc. machining operations were upgraded and constructed as planned. While MNA provided several engineering disciplines to complete the project, the architectural design work was primarily for the new chiller building. MNA provided on-site employees in design and construction coordination to facilitate project delivery that contributed to a successful project solution.
