Cummins Inc. head-mounted display (HMD) expansion project would provide state-of-the-art technology to the current assembly, inspection, and maintenance operations processes while enabling the company to increase the machining capacity to 60,000 parts/year. The HMD system project would allow for collaboration, training, and real-time troubleshooting during the engine building process. The project would require structural design modifications to the existing building structure and foundation design modifications for the new machining layout.
The large-scale expansion project required extensive expertise in several types of engineering disciplines while developing certified plans, sections, details and schedules required for the utility system’s relocation. Structural design modifications to the existing facility systems needed to accommodate the installation of the new MEGA Machines and Gantry systems. Relocation of the facility utilities and the HVAC system would also be required to support the new machining layout.
MNA provided electrical and mechanical design expertise to develop certified plans, sections, details and schedules required for the utility system’s relocation. Electrical power busways were relocated to support power to the new machining layout. The HMD expansion project resulted in the Cummins, Inc. facility’s ability to meet the increased production goals. Cummins Inc. representatives were highly satisfied with the solution.
