Allison Transmission Bid Package 8 & 11, Phase 6

The Need

For over 100 years, Allison Transmission has been the largest global manufacturer of medium-duty and heavy-duty, fully- automatic transmissions and a leader of electrified propulsion systems. Allison Transmission required a large engine test cell, which would require the razing and rebuilding of an existing test cell for the specialized testing of products. In addition, they needed to convert an existing diesel test cell to a gasoline emission rated test cell.

THE CHALLENGE

As part of the extensive scope of work to accomplish these tasks, evaluation of the existing utilities to determine if the existing energy and power systems could support both the new and renovated areas was required. In doing so, it was determined that a new power substation would need to be constructed. The project location was within existing test cell operations. Limiting impairments to operations was an important consideration during design.

The Solution

MNA provided architectural design and MEP expertise along with unique knowledge of test cells and test cell requirements and functions.  Design included a new double ended substation, test cell infrastructure, and tie-ins to existing utilities. The result was new and upgraded facilities that met specified testing standards and exceeded the client’s expectations.
