Aisin manufactures a variety of automotive parts and energy solutions for the automotive industry. The Manufacturing Expansion Phase 2 project scope included the design and construction of 113,000 sq. ft. of additional space to the existing facility to increase manufacturing operations including assembly, injection and paint. The expansion also included office space, a cafeteria, support areas and a clean room manufacturing area.
The existing facility operations could not be interrupted during the construction of the expansion project and would more than double the size of the existing facility, which also meant that all the utilities would need to be upgraded to support the increased energy capacity. Further, this location is the company’s electronics headquarters. Therefore, the facility would experience high visibility as a destination point for employees and customers.
MNA’s engineered solution involved several disciplines including architectural services, mechanical, electrical, structural and civil expertise. A humidity control system was designed to provide adequate ventilation for heat-generating manufacturing processes. Since the completion of this project, MNA has planned and designed 11 total facilities for Aisin that encompass 1.2 million sq. ft. with a combined construction cost of $49 million.
