The Indianapolis division of Ingredion increased the laboratory space in their facility by remodeling a 2,200-square-foot RSP Lab. The project consisted of metal casework, stainless steel drying racks, epoxy worktops, and a VAV Hood System.
Mussett Nicholas Associates completed a study of the high-zone chilled water system at the JW Marriott hotel. The project consisted of controling modifications to maximize the effectiveness of existing equipment. Commissioning services were provided for the chilled water system and high-zone air-handlers.
CHEMISTRY FLEXIBLE LABORATORY AND VIVARIUM CONVERSION
The project converted 6,300 square feet of vivarium space into 3,000 square feet of flexible laboratory space and 3,300 square feet of IWP with a break area. Flexible laboratory included 14 low-flow fume hoods and mobile casework. The project utilized a flexible utility layout with ceiling interface panels and utility distribution piping with quick disconnects.
The renovation of a 2,900-square-foot laboratory space included 2,500 square feet of open lab space and 500 square feet for a cell culture lab. Spaces were separated using a demountable wall system mounted to a service ceiling. The service ceiling is laid out in an 8’x8’ grid system, which allows for service columns and walls to be easily relocated. Building utility systems were routed in a loop with quick disconnects every 5 feet to allow for movement of service columns. Electricity was routed using a bus duct system to allow for easy relocation of electrical equipment. Energy-saving features include LED lights, low-flow fume hoods with zone presence sensors and sash monitors, and a VAV HVAC system.
The scope of this project included the demolition of an existing building to allow for the construction of this facility. Mussett Nicholas Associates provided the MEP design for this building, which included the consolidation of several laboratories on campus into this facility. The building was constructed within an existing campus, directly adjacent to three (3) other buildings. The building comprised BSL-2 laboratories, support spaces, material storage, environmental test chambers, and administrative areas. The building included GMP areas with temperature and humidity requirements.
MODEL:The design utilized Revit as the BIM modeling software. During design, coordination was accomplished with consultants exchanging models and the use of Navisworks for clash detection. During the construction, the various construction trades used BIM for coordination. MNA actively participated with the contractors during these coordination efforts.

COMMISSIONING/TURN-OVER: MNA provided assistance through collaboration with a 3rd party commissioning agent during initial start-up and functional tests. In addition, MNA attended training sessions with the commissioning agent, equipment vendors, contractors, and the owner during the turnover phase of the project. This provided the owner’s facility team a complete perspective of the project compared to conventional training sessions
A new test cell for development and production tests of lift fans under differing nozzle and inlet conditions. The project included a new electric utility substation to deliver 13kV power to a 40,000hp motor. Mussett Nicholas Associates was a consultant to the prime test cell facility design firm.
One million gallon industrial wastewater treatment facility for fuel impacted water. Mussett Nicholas Associates designed the offloading, loading, piping systems, and fluid handling system for this facility.
Plainfield Community School Corporation added six classrooms, enlarged the Media Center, added air-conditioning, and renovated the restrooms and corridors of this facility. The building was occupied through construction.
Conversion of Shortridge Middle School from a Theater/Arts Magnet to a Government/Law Magnet Middle & High School. Mussett Nicholas Associates assisted Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) in programming the facility for grades six through twelve.
Air-conditioning was added with complete upgrading of mechanical, electrical, controls, and intercom systems. A complete re-roof of the historic building was included, along with limestone restoration and masonry repairs. Installing a new kitchen was included in this project.
